Personal Safety Gear
Head
Gotta protect the noggin. A DOT approved helmet is mandatory with eye protection. Either a shield, or goggles.
We prefer SNELL rated headgear, as there is more stringent guidelines in performance characteristics to assure a higher quality, safer helmet. Snell Ratings

Neck
For the neck, some kids are starting to wear neck protection. This is not something that is currently required, but is something other families we have talked with recommend. There are a lot of high impact crashes, even with the little guys, and neck injury can be a concern. We have the RC2 Race Collar by EVS-Sports but there are many makes, styles, and price ranges. We got ours at the Ingles Performance Trailer at the track.

Shoulders/Chest
Our favorite protection for the shoulders, upper arm, chest, and abdomen has got to be the TekVest. The boys like it because if they wear it outside their jacket, they look "COOL", and it designates them as "one of the racers". We like it, because it is quality protection.

Knees/Shins
Tight turns and crashes put the knees and shins in danger. There are lots of professional motorsport guards out there, but most of the other moms I talked with went with the old stand-by: Hockey shin guards. Most sport stores carry them for about $15 dollars.

Feet/Ankles
Boots are a must. Not just for warmth, but also to protect the ankles. In order to add this protection, the boots must be higher than the ankles.

Sled Safety Metal Tunnel Protector
We got ours made for the boys by CDB Motorsports. They are all tig welded aluminum. Nice fit and they look real cool too.

Fender Protection
The metal bumper of the sled needs to be wrapped to protect the little guys and gals (not to mention a multitude of shins)from injury during impact. A strip of foam pipe insulation will fit easily over the bar for cheap money. You can then secure it firmly with duct tape, or colored tape, if you want to color coordinate. If you have metal skis you will have to do the same thing to them as well.

Tail Light Protection
Clear packing tape over the tail light will prevent a shower of red plastic shards on the track. It also helps to keep the light in working order, which is a requirement of ISR stock regulations.

Snow Flap
When your child is sitting on the sled, the snow flap must be touching the ground.
